Triangle Foundation – Mental Health Reinvented
We provide professional Wellbeing Assessments and deliver the Triangle Foundation’s flagship Mental Health Self Defence® Programme a bespoke course designed to protect and strengthen mental health.
Our two-day Stress Prevention & Wellbeing Resilience Programme, approved by the International Stress Management Association (ISMA UK), forms a core part of this training. It equips participants with practical tools to reduce stress, build resilience, and improve overall wellbeing.
Triangle Foundation supports people across all areas of society from employers and their staff to public sector organisations, community groups, unemployed individuals, and those experiencing significant mental health challenges.
We are committed to breaking down barriers to mental health support. Through fundraising, corporate partnerships, cross-charity collaboration, and public funding, we deliver a range of Foundation-funded and subsidised services to ensure individuals receive the help they need, regardless of their circumstances.
What We Do

We provide confidential mentoring, and guided wellbeing assessments to help individuals understand their current emotional health, develop personal strategies, and build long-term resilience.
• Mental Health Self-Defence® Training
Our flagship ISMA-approved programme teaches practical, evidence-based techniques for managing stress, anxiety, burnout, and anxiety-based depression. These tools strengthen self-care, improve coping skills, and promote lasting wellbeing.
• Courses, Workshops & Community Support
We deliver tailored programmes for employers, public bodies, community organisations, and other charities. These include resilience training, wellbeing planning, stress reduction workshops, and skills-based mental health courses.
• Probiotics & Gut–Brain Research
Triangle Foundation is at the forefront of integrating science-based probiotics into mental health support. Working in partnership with UK universities and sector specialists, we are developing high-quality probiotics designed to support stress, anxiety, and mood regulation. This pioneering initiative reflects our commitment to prevention and early intervention.
• Collaboration With Other Charities
We actively work alongside fellow charities, community organisations, and third-sector partners to extend support to those who need it most. By sharing expertise and resources, we help strengthen mental health provision across Wales and the wider UK.
Our Approach
We focus on early intervention, prevention, and education. Our programmes combine neuroscience, real-world coping strategies, and evidence-based tools empowering people to regain control, improve resilience, and move forward with confidence.
Triangle Foundation equips individuals with scientifically informed skills to manage stress, anxiety, depression, burnout, sleep problems, and daily emotional challenges, helping them achieve improved wellbeing and a stronger sense of self-worth.
Triangle Foundation was created by David Briscombe, together with leading health professionals Dr Beverley Steffert PhD and Dr Tony Steffert PhD. Their shared vision was simple: to ensure that vulnerable people could access high-quality mental health support, regardless of their circumstances.
Founded in 2016, the charity was built on the belief that everyone deserves the opportunity to improve their mental wellbeing. This ethos shaped the Foundation’s early work and led to official recognition as a Registered Charity in 2018.
In response to the growing pressures on people’s lives particularly during and after the COVID-19 pandemic the Foundation expanded its remit to provide free and Foundation-subsidised mental health support across communities, workplaces, and wider society.
As the organisation evolved beyond its original scope, a new identity was needed to reflect its broader mission. On 6 December 2022, the Triangle Foundation name was formally adopted, marking a new chapter in delivering innovative, accessible, and stigma-free mental health support.
The history of Triangle Foundation is closely woven into the lifelong work and experience of its founders, each of whom has dedicated decades to supporting people experiencing mental health challenges.
David Briscombe C.M.H.T., D.P.D.M.S.M., FISMA, together with Dr Beverley Steffert PhD and Dr Tony Steffert PhD, first began collaborating in the late 1990s. Between them, they brought expertise spanning clinical practice, neuroscience, applied psychology, and stress-related research.
After many years working in private practice and supporting individuals and organisations through stress management, resilience training, and employee assistance programmes (EAP), David recognised that high-quality mental health support should be available to everyone not only to those who could afford it. With this in mind, he laid the foundations for a new charitable organisation in 2016, supported by members of the Cardiff and Swansea business communities and guided by the professional insight of Dr Beverley and Dr Tony Steffert.
Triangle Mental Health Foundation was granted Registered Charity status in 2018.
The name Triangle Foundation reflects its core purpose: to help people who have become isolated through unemployment, financial hardship, or social disadvantage rebuild their confidence, strengthen their mental health, and follow a new path with structured support.
Emerging Research: Probiotics and Mental Health.
In recent years, the Foundation has expanded its work into pioneering research on the gut–brain axis, recognising the growing evidence linking probiotics with improvements in stress, anxiety, depression, and overall wellbeing. Working alongside respected academic partners in South Wales, the charity is developing evidence-based probiotic interventions to support people experiencing anxiety and anxiety-based depression. This research is now an important part of the Foundation’s commitment to innovation and prevention in mental health.
Today
Triangle Foundation continues to provide funded and subsidised support for individuals, corporations, charities, and community groups across Wales and beyond. The charity remains committed to partnership working collaborating with both the public and private sectors to ensure that effective, accessible mental health support reaches the people who need it most.
